Double-Life

One in every ten person develops a magical ability during their teenage years, but only some of them gain abilities powerful enough to be of any use. The phenomenon is called double-life, their capacity is called second-life and one with double-life is called a doubler. A person who has not develop a double-life is called — by the doubler — a singler. Doublers are forced to live on Effingdurn where they either live isolated or learn to become a monster hunter/mercenaries.

• The second-life does allow to make things appear out of thin air without a cost.
• The cost has to be paid; it can always be paid by the doubler but some have the ability to take the energy from somewhere or something else.
  • The default source of energy inside the doubler is the food energy, once this daily storage is depleted other sources are used:
    • the muscles or fat in the body
    • the heat in the body
    • the brain electrical activity
  • This sources used in to much quantity result in the death of the doubler.
• A doubler can sometimes store energy for latter use, the process is never perfect and the storage never leak-proof.

• Apart from twins, each second-life is unique at birth. It further evolves during the doubler's live.
• Some develop autonomous second-life which is able to follow a certain pattern

• Doubler have increased regenerative capacity, mostly during sleep. They tend to live twice as long as a normal life — when they live a normal life.

• A training in the Effingdurn just after the emergence of the first ability is mandatory, all doublers are recorded.
• A special guild called the Handlers is charged of capturing all double who trespass the law.
• Doublers very often follow their years of training in Effingdurn by joining the [[start:setting:adventure_guild|Adventurer's guild].
